CHICAGO — Northern Iowa led from start to finish Saturday as the Panthers wrapped up their women’s basketball regular season with a 64-39 win at Loyola.

UNI (17-12, 13-5) scored the first 12 points of the Missouri Valley Conference matchup, sputtered briefly late in the opening quarter and into the second, taking a 30-15 lead to halftime.

The Panthers shot 45 percent overall in the half, but were just 2-for-12 from 3-point range. However, UNI’s defense allowed the Ramblers (7-22, 5-13) to shoot just 24 percent over the opening 16 minutes.

While the perimeter shots still didn’t fall for the Panthers in the third period, the defense never let Loyola make a run as the lead grew as large as 47-22 1:53 left in the third period.

UNI shot 47 percent from the game (just 4-for-19 from 3-point range) and was just 2-for-2 from the free-throw line while giving up 11 turnovers.

Loyola finished at 26.4 percent overall shooting (1-for-10 from 3) with 14 turnovers and had eight shots blocked by UNI (four by Taylor Hagen).

Megan Maahs led the Panthers with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds while 11 players reached the scoring column.

Next up for both teams is the Missouri Valley tournament. UNI owns the No. 3 seed and will play its first game Friday at 8:30 p.m. against Illinois State.
