PEORIA, Ill. — Northern Iowa never let Bradley get on a second-half run Friday night as the Panthers posted a 51-40 Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball road win.

It was UNI’s first MVC road win of the season and its 13th straight win over the Braves and 19th in the past 20 meetings dating back to 2010.

The Panthers (9-10, 5-3) overcame 21 turnovers and 1-for-13 shooting from 3-point range by holding Bradley (10-9, 4-4) to 27 percent shooting overall, 0-for-8 from 3-point range and forcing 15 Braves turnovers.

UNI led 12-6 after a first quarter when Bradley went 3-for-17 from the field. It was a 21-18 Panther lead late in the second quarter when Kennedy Kirkpatrick connected on UNI’s first 3-pointer in nine attempts and Taylor Hagen added a rebound and putback for a 26-20 halftime edge.

Turnovers continued to plague the Panthers early in the second half, but the ice-cold Braves couldn’t capitalize. Bradley pulled within 26-24 with 5:06 on the clock, but Karli Rucker answered with a traditional three-point play and UNI took a 35-28 lead into the fourth.

Bradley didn’t get any closer than six points the rest of the way. When the Braves got within 44-38 and 46-40 in the closing minutes, Ellie Howell slammed the door with a jumper and a layup for the Panthers.

Howell finished with 16 points to lead the UNI offense. Megan Maahs had a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds.
