CEDAR FALLS — University of Northern Iowa volleyball coach Bobbi Petersen has announced the signing of four high school standouts to national letters of intent.

Two of them have grown up around Panther volleyball — Petersen’s daughter Baylee and assistant coach Kalani Mahi’s daughter, Tayah.

Katherine Barr, a 6-foot-2 middle blocker from Antioch, Ill., and Linn-Mar 6-3 middle hitter Carly Spies will also join the UNI program next season.

Barr is a three-time all-conference and two-time all-area performer at Antioch who finished her three-year varsity career with 280 blocks, while Spies earned all-conference honors for Linn-Mar and played for the Iowa Juniors Volleyball Club.

Baylee Petersen is a first-team all-stater and an honorable mention selection to the AVCA/Under Armour All-America squad. Mahi is also a first-team all-stater who piled up more than 4,000 assists during her prep career and is a candidate for the Prep Volleyball Iowa Player of the Year. As a beach volleyball player, she was a member of the bronze medal team at the USA Junior Beach Tour National Championship.
