ST. LOUIS — Senior Heather Hook of Northern Iowa was named the Missouri Valley Conference Setter of the Year Thursday as the league announced its all-conference honors.
Heading into Friday’s MVC tournament semifinals, Hook ranks fourth in the nation in assists (1,366) and tops the Valley in assists per set at 11.68. She is one of six UNI players to ever top 4,000 career assists.
Hook also earned first-team all-MVC honors after making the second team a year ago. She is joined on the top squad by teammates Karlie Taylor, Piper Thomas and Bri Weber while Jaydlin Seehase of Sumner made the All-Freshman team.
Taylor leads the Panthers in double-doubles with 22. The sophomore from Eddyville ranks second for UNI with 449 kills and third in digs (414).
Thomas leads the Missouri Valley in hitting percentage (.355). The junior from Jesup tops UNI in kills (459) and blocks (98) and will take a streak of 25 straight matches with double-figure kills into the MVC Tournament.
Weber, a junior from Dike, returns to the all-MVC first team after averaging 3.34 kills and 3.85 digs per set with 15 double-doubles.
UNI’s four first-team selections are the program’s most since 2011.
