SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Northern Iowa freshman Hannah Truniger finished just shy of a championship in her first Missouri Valley Conference outdoor track and field meet Friday at Missouri State.
Truniger completed the 10,000-meter run in 36 minutes, 24.85 seconds, just back of champion Emma Hatch of Loyola's 36:23.39 time. Panther senior Kelsey Kirchoff finished fifth in 36:45.41, just .32 back of fourth place.
UNI's throws crew began competition with multiple top five efforts.
Brad Walski led the Panthers with a runner-up mark of 192-1 in the hammer throw, just behind champion Isaac Ingram of Southern Illinois' 199-3. UNI sophomore Isaac Holtz was fourth in the event at 185-4.
In the women's hammer throw, UNI's Sarah Pate placed third at 196-11. Freya Block of Southern Illinois won the event in 211-3. Cedar Falls native and Panther Allison Griffin was sixth at 179-11.
Jake Humpal led UNI with a fifth-place effort in the javelin (178-11).
Brandon Carnes of UNI finished with the top qualifying time in the 200-meter dash in 20.79, only .21 shy of a conference meet record.
