Basketball

  • The Cedar Valley CourtKings will face the Minnesota Pit Bulls on the road at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Courier recently reported that the game was taking place Sunday.

The CourtKings return to the road the following weekend, facing Fort Wayne at 6:30 p.m. May 6. They play another road game against the Minnesota Rangers at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, before returning home to face Milwaukee at 7:30 p.m. the following night.

Track and field

  • Northern Iowa standouts Brandon Carnes and Sarah Pate were honored Tuesday as the Missouri Valley Conference Track Athletes of the Week.

Carnes broke MVC and UNI records in the 100-meter dash Friday at Iowa with a time of 10.06 seconds that leads the NCAA's West Region and ranks fifth nationally. He also set new UNI and MVC marks in the 200 with a 20.50 time.

Pate added a UNI record in the hammer throw with an effort of 203 feet, 6 inches. It's the second-best in the MVC this season, 10th in the West Region and 21st nationally.

  • Hawkeye Community College has signed Zarreeel Knox of South Holland, Ill., to compete in track and field for the RedTails.

Knox won the triple jump three times last season and finished third in the long jump at her conference indoor championship meet.

Football

  • Northern Iowa has set kickoff times for its five home games during the 2017 football season.

Kickoff for the Sept. 9 home opener against Cal Poly is 4 p.m., as is the Oct. 7 homecoming game against Western Illinois. The Oct. 21 Family Weekend matchup against Youngstown State will begin at 1 p.m., as will the Nov. 4 game against South Dakota. The regular-season home finale Nov. 18 against Indiana State begins at 4 p.m.

Rugby

  • The Wolf Creek Rugby Club racked up two big wins last Friday in Dysart.

Wolf Creek improved to 7-0-1 with a 70-0 rout of Johnston and a 56-0 shutout of Mason City.

Tennis

  • The Cedar Valley SportsPlex is accepting registrations for its youth tennis programs that offer instruction and competition for players of all ages and skill levels.

The Quick Start program is $37, the National Junior Tennis League is $42, Junior Team tennis is $47 and Tournament Group is $57.

Miscellaneous

  • The Cedar Valley SportsPlex is offering a Rotary Spring and Summer A Ball program for boys and girls in first grade.

Participants receive instruction in baseball and softball fundamentals, plus practices and recreational games. Cost for the program is $32.

Golf

  • Northern Iowa senior Allison Rolinger is an honorable mention selection for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team.

Rolinger led the Panthers in stroke average (78.32) last season and finished eighth at the MVC Championships. In the classroom, she owns a 3.69 grade-point average.

Baseball

  • The Waterloo Columbus high school baseball team has kicked off its annual Adrenaline Fundraiser to raise money for its 2017 season.

Sailor players will be selling discount cards in their neighborhoods for $20 beginning April 28. Anyone else wishing to purchase a card should call (319) 269-0894.

Soccer

  • Cedar Falls soccer standout Sarah Swiatly has signed a letter of intent to compete for Hawkeye Community College next season.

Swiatly is a multi-sport athlete and honor roll student who has been a valuable defender for the Tigers the past three seasons.
