TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Ashley Chesser drove in three runs, including blasting a game winning home run to help Northern Iowa salvage a doubleheader split with Indiana State Saturday in Missouri Valley Confernece softball action.

Chesser’s big game came in the night cap as she went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and 3 RBIs.

The freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla., ripped a two-run double in the third inning to tie game two at 3-all, and her solo blast, the first of her career, in the top of the fifth to help the Panthers (15-12 overall, 3-2 MVC) take the nightcap, 4-3.

The Sycamores (14-13, 1-4) took the opener in nine innings, 5-4.

UNI broke out to a 3-0 lead through two innings. Macey Wolfe blasted a two-run home run in the first, and Sammey Bunch stole home in the second to make it 3-0.

Indiana State got two back in the fifth, before UNI stretched its lead to 4-2 in the sixth as Bunch doubled hom Tianna Drahn.

But the Sycamores scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth to win it.

UNI and Indiana State conclude the three-game series today at 10 a.m. (Central).
