LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Northern Iowa sent 1-1 Friday against Big 12 Conference competition on the opening day of the Kansas University Invitational softball tournament.
Nebraska dealt the Panthers a 6-3 setback to start the day before UNI bounced back with an 8-4 victory over host Kansas.
In the first game, Nebraska (13-7) slammed a pair of home runs and scored in four different innings. Brittney Roby and Jaclyn Spencer had two hits each for the Panthers.
UNI then scored all eight of its runs in the third inning against Kansas when a pair of Jayhawk errors contributed. Roby went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, Kennedy Bailey was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and Adara Opiola also knocked in two.
Now 14-8, the Panthers face Wisconsin-Green Bay and Missouri-Kansas city Saturday.
