WATERLOO — The Northern Iowa women’s soccer team improved to 5-0 for the first time in school history Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Kansas State at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.

Senior defender Haley Kerns scored just before the first half whistle for the only goal of the game as goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger posted her fifth shutout of the season.

“We played as well as we did on Friday and the second game of the weekend series is tough,” UNI head coach Bruce Erickson said. “We got our fifth shutout today, against a power-five team. They have been very dangerous in an attack and we defended well against them.”

UNI out-shot the Wildcats (2-2-1), 13-10, and had more corner kicks, 7-3.

The Panthers (5-0) remain at home when they return to the pitch, Friday, as they will host South Dakota State at 7 p.m.
