The University of Northern Iowa women’s soccer team will hold its Purple and Gold scrimmage at 5 p.m. today at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex in Waterloo.
The Panthers return nine of 11 starters for new coach Bruce Erickson, who spent the past two seasons as head coach at Wayne State after 15 years at Creighton.
UNI will play exhibitions Aug. 9 at Western Illinois and Aug. 15 at Minnesota State-Mankato before opening its regular season Aug. 20 at Chicago State.
The city of Arlington will hold its first Arlington Sports Night Aug. 19 at the Arlington Community Event Center.
At least eight notable figures in Iowa sports will be on hand, including Dan Gable, Tim Dwight, Dave Barclay, Joe Stasi, Kent Streicher, Doug Streicher, Bob Maker and Justin O’Brien.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes dinner, a celebrity game show, a live auction featuring sports memorabilia and live music. Advance tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for children ages 3-16 with those under the age of 3 free. Proceeds will go toward making Arlington’s new community event center mortgage free.

The Waterloo Bucks will hold a youth baseball camp for players 17 and under at noon Saturday at Riverfront Stadium.
Cost is $20 per participant and includes admission to Saturday night’s Northwoods League game between Waterloo at Duluth. The camp will be conducted by Bucks players and a waiver is required to participate.

The Junior Wahawk baseball program is holding tryouts Wednesday at Hoing-Rice Softball Complex from 5:30-7 p.m.
The program is looking for players who will be 9 through 14 for next season. There is no fee to try out. All participants need to wear hat, pants and bring a glove.
