SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The University of Northern Iowa women’s soccer team allowed just one goal in three Missouri Valley Conference Tournament matches.

That proved to be one too many.

Missouri State’s Brooke Prondzinski scored in the eighth minute Sunday and the Bears protected that 1-0 lead the rest of the way to knock off the Panthers in a physical MVC tourney championship game on MSU’s home field.

Each team was whistled for 12 fouls in the game, and UNI received two yellow cards and Missouri State one. The Panthers also lost starting goaltender Jami Reichenberger to injury just 7:20 into the game, but freshman Jordyn Petty took over and stopped all four shots on goal she faced.

The loss ended a record-breaking season for UNI, which finished 14-5-1 with two 1-0 losses at Missouri State. The Panthers set program records for wins (14), goals (34), assists (29), shots (309) and shutouts (11). They allowed just 14 goals all season.

UNI’s Brynell Yount, Kelsey Yarrow and Allison Bitter were named to the all-tournament team, while Sydney Hayden earned the Elite 17 Award honoring athletic and academic achievement.
