SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — For the first time this season, the Northern Iowa women’s soccer team won’t be returning from a road trip with a win.
Missouri State’s Ashley Coonfield scored a goal in the 20th minute that held up during a 1-0 shutout over a UNI squad that entered this match perfect in Missouri Valley Conference league play and overall on the road.
UNI (10-2-1, 2-1 MVC) held a 19-15 advantage over Missouri State (6-9, 2-2) in shots. Hannah McDevitt led the Panthers with five shots. Brynell Yount and Megan Teel each had three shots.
Lexi Palacio made five saves to preserve Missouri State’s shutout effort. UNI goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger stopped three shots.
This marked a rare time that UNI has surrendered a goal throughout what has been a successful season. The Panthers rank among the nation’s Top 10 in shutout percentage at 66.7.
UNI will return to action with another road trip 7 p.m. Tuesday against Drake.
