ST. LOUIS -- Northern Iowa's Bennett Koch and Tywhon Pickford were honored by the Missouri Valley Conference Tuesday as the league announced its all-conference teams and specialty awards.
Koch, a senior from Ashwaubenon, Wis., was named third-team all-MVC. He leads the Panthers in scoring at 12.7 points per game and in blocked shots with 24. He had a career-high 30 points in an early season win over UNLV and recently topped the 1,000-point mark for his career.
Pickford, a freshman from Minneapolis, was named to the MVC's All-Freshman and All-Newcomer teams. The 6-foot-4 guard ranks second in the league in rebounds at 8.0 per game and ranks 11th nationally in rebounding among all freshmen. He is No. 2 in the national in rebounding among players 6-5 or smaller.
Loyola's Clayton Custer was named the Larry Bird MVC Player of the Year, Illinois State's Milik Yarbrough was selected as Newcomer of the Year, Loyola's Cameron Krutwig took Freshman of the Year honors, Ben Richardson of Loyola was tabbed Defensive MVP and Tyler Smithpeters of Southern Illinois earned the Sixth Man of the Year award.
