- University of Northern Iowa guard Tywhon Pickford was named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week Monday.
Pickford averaged 12.7 points and 12.7 rebounds as the Panthers went 2-1 and reached the championship game of the Battle 4 Atlantis. He had 18 points and 18 rebounds in a semifinal win over North Carolina State. His 18 rebounds were the most for a UNI player since David Gruber had 18 against Montana in 2002.
- Iowa State had four players earn all-Big 12 Conference honors Monday, including Libero of the Year Hali Hillegas of Charles City, who is the Cyclones' ninth player in the past 10 years to receive that distinction.
Hillegas was joined on the all-Big 12 first team by Jess Schaben and Samara West, while Avery Rhodes made the All-Freshman team.
Hillegas leads the Big 12 and ranks 15th nationally at 5.61 digs per set. Schaben repeated as a first-team performer and is averaging 3.28 kills and 3.05 digs while West moved up from the second team a year ago after averaging 2.92 kills with a team-best .299 hitting percentage.
