CEDAR FALLS — The Northern Iowa football program completed its 2018 football schedule by announcing it has added a home game with Hampton University for Sept. 22 at the UNI-Dome.
The Pirates were 6-5 in 2017 and will be playing in their first season in the Big South Conference after moving over the MEAC.
One of Hampton’s five losses last season was to Monmouth (30-23), a team the Panthers beat in the first round of the FCS playoffs. This will be the first ever meeting between UNI and Hampton.
The Panthers’ 11-game 2018 schedule now features five home games, including Hampton, with North Dakota State (Oct. 6), South Dakota State, homecoming (Oct. 20) and Illinois State on Nov. 3 (Family Weekend) and Missouri State on Nov. 17 (Senior Day).
UNI opens the season with a trip to Missoula, Montana on Sept. 1 where it will be the Panthers and Grizzlies first regular season meeting in Missoula since 1981. The two have played three times in the FCS playoffs — 1994, 2001 and 2011, and the Grizzlies beat UNI, 20-14, in 2016 in Cedar Falls.
After its trip to Montana, UNI will travel to Kinnick Stadium to face Iowa on Sept. 15. The Panthers last played in Iowa City in 2014 with the Hawkeyes pulling out a 31-23 victory.
After the game with Iowa, the Panthers will have a quick turnaround as they will play their Missouri Valley Conference Football opener on Thursday, Sept. 27 at Indiana State. UNI does not play Southern Illinois in this year’s MVFC rotation.
Kickoff times will be released at a later date.
