IOWA CITY — A pair of top 10 finishes helped the University of Northern Iowa women’s cross country team to a third-place finish at Friday’s Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City.
Ashley Norem was fifth overall in the 83-runner field, posting a time of 10:25.30. Hannah Truniger added an eighth-place finish in 10:30.30. In addition, Kelsey Kirchoff was 21st in 10:42.50 and Brette Correy 22nd in 10:43.20. Alyssa Williams added a 25th-place effort in 10:44.80.
UNI finished just one point behind runner-up Creighton, 80-79. Iowa was the team champ with 47 points. The Hawkeyes’ Tess Wilberding won in 10:20.4, barely beating Iowa State’s Grace Gibbons (10:20.8) to the finish line.
In the men’s race where Iowa State and Iowa went 1-2, UNI was seventh as a team. Bailey Wetherell’s 18th-place finish led the Panthers (18:41.60). C.J. May was 38th (18:55.20), Jacob Day 43rd (19:05.10) and Dylan Eigenberger 47th (19:13.30).
Toby Hardwick of Iowa State was the individual winner in 17:57.6.
