Former Northern Iowa guard Jeremy Morgan has been given another opportunity to showcase his skills to professional brass.
Morgan has been invited to next week’s Professional Basketball Combine at the IMG Academy in Brandenton, Fla. The event will run from May 15-17.
Morgan and his fellow prospects will be given a chance to work out, do combine testing and interview with NBA scouts, general managers and D-League personnel.
The UNI grad already has one professional workout under his belt, after visiting the San Antonio Spurs on May 3.
Three representatives of the Wartburg College women’s basketball program have been selected to be part of the USA DIII Select Team for the 2017 Brazil Tour July 17-26.
Standouts Miranda Murphy and Katie Sommer will play for the team, while the Knights’ Bob Amsberry will be the coach. All three were part of a Wartburg team that reached the NCAA Final Four two seasons ago and returned to the NCAA Tournament this past season after winning the Iowa Conference regular-season and tournament championships.
Northern Iowa’s Kennedy Bailey and Sammey Bunch were honored Monday as Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, respectively.
Bailey belted a grand slam and a three-run homer in the first-game of a weekend sweep over previous league leading Illinois State and batted .500 for the weekend. Bunch, a freshman, hit .455 with a double, a homer and five RBIs.
The 2017 NJCAA Region XI Division II baseball tournament will return to Riverfront Stadium May 11-15. Seven teams from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference will play in the five-day, 12-game event.
The tournament begins at noon on May 11 with the tournament championship at 3:30 p.m. May 14 or at 11 a.m. May 15 if a double-elimination game is required.
Ashley Clinton of Edgewood-Colesburg and Jensen Vodochodsky of South Tama have signed letters of intent to join the Hawkeye Community College women’s cross country team next season.
Clinton is a two-time state track qualifier while Vodochodsky has competed in both track and field and cross country.

Northern Iowa’s Brad Walski was named Missouri Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week Tuesday.
Friday at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic, Walski recorded a person-best hammer throw of 204 feet that ranks third all-time in UNI history, first in the MVC and 29th in the NCAA’s West Region. He also threw the shot put a career-best 55-11 to take fourth place in the meet.
Waterloo East High graduate Autumn Weekley has signed to run track and field at Hawkeye Community College next season.
Weekley’s specialty is the 800 meters where she was eighth in the Class 4A districts as a senior in 2016.
