WAVERLY — Top-ranked and two-time defending Division III national champion Wartburg College opened its dual season Wednesday with a 38-10 win over Simpson College in Iowa Conference wrestling action.

The Knights (1-0) got bookend pins from Connor Cleveland at 125 and Lance Evans at heavyweight while winning its 57th consecutive dual and 198th consecutive IIAC dual.

Cleveland pinned Jacob Irwin in two minutes and six seconds to open the match, while Evans decked Damon Piatt in 1:41 to close out the victory.

In between, Wartburg got technical falls from Cross Cannone at 149 and Kyle Fank at 197.

Wartburg will be sending a contingent of wrestlers to both the Augsburg and Concordia (Wisconsin) Open tournaments Saturday.
