IOWA CITY – Makenzie Meyer scored a career-high 21 points as Iowa cruised past Western Michigan 79-56 in a college women’s basketball game Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Meyer, a sophomore from Mason City, knocked down eight of the 12 shots she attempted, including five of eight from 3-point range, to help Iowa open a 45-21 halftime lead that went unchallenged.

Making her second straight start in place of injured Kathleen Doyle, Alexis Sevillian scored 10 of her career-best 19 points during a tone-setting opening quarter and her work on the perimeter was complemented by the 15-point, 13-rebound performance of Megan Gustafson.

Iowa (4-0) finished with 24 assists on 29 baskets and benefitted from a season-low eight turnovers.
