AMES — Iowa State used a big second-quarter run to break the game open early and went on to a 61-45 women’s college basketball win over Missouri-Kansas City Monday night at Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones (2-1) went on a 13-1 surge to start the second quarter that fueled a 39-15 halftime lead. UMKC (0-4) shot just 13 percent in the opening half, making 5 of 39 field goal attempts.

Freshman Madison Wise led Iowa State’s scoring with 15 points and also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Kristin Scott had 13 points and 14 rebounds, Meredith Burkhall chipped in 12 points, and Bridget Carleton added 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and five blocks.

Iowa State heads to the Bahamas for the Junkanoo Jam beginning Friday against Tulane.
