FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Iowa stormed back from a 12-point first-quarter deficit and defeated Charlotte 77-64 Thursday in the second round of the Puerto Rico Challenge women’s basketball tournament.

Charlotte (2-3) jumped out to a 24-12 lead after the first period, but the Hawkeyes outscored the 49ers 23-8 in the second quarter and 42-32 in the second half to improve to 6-0 on the season. It’s the best start for an Iowa team since a 7-0 beginning to the 2010-11 season. Megan Gustafson recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Makenzie Meyer added 17 points and seven assists and Tania Davis had 11 points and five assists.

Iowa shot 47 percent for the game and hit 8 of their last 16 attempts from 3-point range after an 0-for-6 start.

The Hawkeyes return to the court Saturday against 4-0 Elon.
