WAVERLY — Second-ranked Wartburg added the Iowa Conference women’s basketball tournament title to its regular-season championship Saturday afternoon with an 86-74 win over Luther.
Now 27-0, the NCAA Tournament-bound Knights shot 53 percent overall, 43 percent from 3-point range and forced 17 Luther turnovers while winning their second straight IIAC tournament.
Wartburg’s Katie Sommer tallied 23 points and broke her own single-season assist record with 163. Morgan Neuendorf added a career-high 22 points and Emma Gerdes added 11.
Luther (19-10) led 23-19 after one quarter and the game was tied 41-41 at halftime. The Knights took the lead for good with a 13-0 run to close out the third period.
Wartburg will learn its first-round NCAA opponent and the game’s location Monday afternoon. The Knights will be making their third straight appearance in the tournament and made it all the way to the Final Four two seasons ago.
