Q: I see quite a few millennials in cold weather not wearing coats and sometimes wearing shorts. Is this some kind of fad?

A: We’d disagree that it’s a new phenomenon specific to millennials. People of all ages and generation markers have been eschewing bulky clothing since the dawn of time, beginning from the time a child is old enough to remove their own clothing. There are a few things at play here: First, not everyone’s body temperature and comfort levels are the same — this is why couples get into fights over the thermostat. Second, those who are more active or have higher metabolisms, like runners or young people, tend to not need or want as many layers of clothing on. Finally, there’s the fashion-forward or “cool” factor, which especially applies to teenagers — if a coat or hat hampers your look or hairstyle, you’re more likely to go without it if you can stand the chill.

Q: How does YouTube work? Do people really make their living out of making videos?

A: If people have enough subscribers, or followers of their videos, yes, they can make money off of ads that play before their videos. YouTube allows content creators to monetize their videos in this way, but it’s dependent on views, meaning the more people you can get to watch your video, the more money you’ll make.

Both influenza virus types A and B were co-circulating with a higher proportion of type B viruses.
