About Dutton, Braun, Staack & Hellman, P.L.C.
Dutton, Braun, Staack & Hellman, P.L.C. has been providing legal services for the Waterloo community since 1918. At DBSH, our goal is to provide outstanding legal services to our clients and referring attorneys. We also want to offer assistance in more specialized practice areas to attorneys who could benefit from aid in tackling a specific legal problem. We consider it a matter of trust to limit our involvement to the specific legal problem in question, and then refer the client back to the referring attorney for future legal needs of a more general nature.
DBSH is a very distinguished law firm that has won nine national awards since 2012. U.S. News & World Report is heralding DBSH as one of the "Best Law Firms" in the country for 2015. As members of the Legal Netlink Alliance (LNA), we offer a vast variety of legal services for our clients.
Conveniently located at 3151 Brockway Road in Waterloo, we can be contacted at (319) 234-4471. You also can visit our website at: www.dbsh.com. You can even fax us at (319) 234-8029 or email us at: email@example.com.
At DBSH we understand that our clients and referring attorneys expect us to make wise use of technology to handle their increasingly complex legal problems. We rely heavily on e-mail, the internet, high-speed scanning, document management and retrieval systems, and other emerging technologies to meet this expectation.
We also network with other lawyers around the state and across the nation who are facing similar problems and developing innovative solutions for their clients.

The area of law that concerns cases involving divorce (dissolution of marriage), child custody and support, guardianship, adoption, and other cases having to do with family-related issues, including the issuance of restraining orders in domestic violence cases.
The delivery of substandard care or services by a doctor or other healthcare provider. Generally, malpractice occurs when a healthcare professional fails to provide the quality of care that should reasonably be expected in the circumstances, with the result that the patient or client is harmed.
An injury not to property, but to your body, mind or emotions. For example, if you slip and fall on a banana peel in the grocery store, personal injury covers any actual physical harm (broken leg and bruises) you suffered in the fall, as well as the humiliation of falling in public, but not the harm of shattering your watch.
The responsibility of manufacturers, distributors and sellers of products to the public, to deliver products free of defects which harm an individual or numerous persons and to make good on that responsibility if their products are defective.
The resolution of disputes by way of cases filed in the civil courts, either state or federal.
A state program that provides temporary and/or permanent disability benefits and payment of medical expenses for employees who are injured or become ill due to their jobs. Financial benefits may also extend to workers' dependents and to the survivors of workers who are killed on the job.
Business Practice Areas
The diverse body of law that deals with the formation and regulation of legal commercial entities, such as corporations, as well as other areas of the law affecting the conduct of business, such as contract law, and regulatory and statutory provisions concerning business activities.
The body of law that addresses the legal rights of, and restrictions on, working people in relationship to their employers. This includes such things as wrongful termination claims, unlawful harassment and discrimination, family leave issues and wage & hour disputes.
The area of law that concerns land and the property permanently attached to it, such as buildings, houses, stationary mobile homes, fences and trees.
Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning & Probate Law
The area of law that deals with passing property to designated beneficiaries after one's death.
The body of law governing the cultivation of various crops and the raising and management of livestock to provide a food and fabric supply for human and animal consumption.
DBSH began as the solo practice of Hal Mosier in 1918. Hal was joined by his son, Craig, in 1937, and the firm eventually grew to be known as Mosier, Thomas, Beatty, Dutton, Braun & Staack. The firm adopted its present name in 1997.
DBSH has emphasized trial practice in state and federal court and offers a broad array of legal services to clients in both litigation and business matters. We take great pride in the referral relationships we have developed with many attorneys throughout the state and in the number of lawyers and law firms that have asked DBSH to represent their interests.
