GERMANA NIJIM
CEDAR FALLS - The letter from Mark Larson about the Rev. Naim Ateek and the Sabeel Center makes me wonder if Mr. Larson took the trouble of attending the Sabeel conference held in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 14-15.
Or if he has asked himself why Jeff Halper, an Israeli Jew, would leave his post at Ben Gurion University to coordinate the Israeli Committee Against House Demolition, whose purpose is to resist the occupation in all its forms.
Or why Marc Ellis, Jewish professor of American and Jewish Studies at Baylor University has joined hands with Naim Ateek and Jeff Halper to speak out against the Israeli Occupation and the unwillingness of Christians to hold Israel accountable for the harm it is inflicting on a defenseless population.
Or why Sabeel conferences are drawing such large numbers of Americans across the country, Americans tired of having their tax money spent to support the development of an apartheid state.
Here are some reading suggestions for Mr. Larson: Justice and Only Justice by Naim Ateek; Unholy Alliance: Religion and Atrocity in Our Time by Marc Ellis; Obstacles to Peace by Jeff Halper.
Maybe if Mark Larson reads these books, he will be able to rely less on disinformation disseminated by Christian and/or Jewish Zionists and more on his own critical study of the Israel/Palestine issue.
