WATERLOO – Waterloo has a status quo problem, especially when it comes to “nonpartisan” city elections. Every year the same group of wealthy “Rockefeller Republican” families along with their tax-and-spend Democrat friends take to the paper to tell us “average Joes” who we should elect to the City Council. It’s happening again this year. Enough is enough.
Waterloo candidates Tom Powers and Sharon Juon both released campaign committees that consist of current Democratic state senators, former Democratic Waterloo mayors, and your typical elitist power couples. I was certainly not impressed. Their campaigns are clearly coordinated and a complete attempt to keep the status quo in Waterloo.
I hope other Waterloo voters will see this for what it truly is … the same ol’ people who have been in charge attempting to stay in charge. Are you happy paying some of the highest taxes in Iowa? I’m not. Are you pleased with the image Waterloo has in our state? I’m not. How many years will it take us to realize that if we keep electing the same establishment people, we will keep getting the same establishment results?
Please join me in voting against the status quo on Nov. 7.
