WAVERLY — Bremer Avenue, though not complete, is now open for the winter until construction begins again in the spring.

That’s according to business liaison Paula Stevenson, whose job it is to keep businesses and residents aware of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s reconstruction of the main downtown thoroughfare.

Little projects were being completed last week as construction wrapped up for the year, she said, including a few spots in the street and sidewalks where concrete needed to be poured.

“Curb painting and putting the street lights in will wrap up this year’s phases of Bremer Avenue,” Stevenson wrote in an email to The Courier last week.

That’s just in time for Christmas Greetings on Main, Waverly’s big holiday shopping celebration, slated for Dec. 14.

Drivers will not see any further construction until around March, with Stevenson noting she’ll likely have another meeting for business and property owners about what they can expect in February.

The Bremer Avenue Reconstruction Hotline, (319) 559-8240, will revert back to a City of Waverly phone line through the winter, she added.
