WATERLOO, Iowa --- Two people have been arrested in connection with a number of counterfeit bills that have turned up around town last month.

Waterloo police arrested Jonah H. Barrett, 36, of 119 W. Parker St., and Leah Nicole Miller, 29, of 209 Morris Ave., Evansdale, for forgery.

Barrett was detained Wednesday and also was held at the Black Hawk County Jail on a probation violation. His bond was set at $10,000.

Miller was taken into custody Friday, and she was released from jail later that day.

The arrests follow a report of 24 fake $20 bills and a bogus $5 bill that were discovered at Walmart on Flammang Drive in March.

During the investigation, police received surveillance videos and found Barrett and Miller making several purchases at different cash registers at the store on March 8. During the final purchase, Barrett allegedly handed Miller cash, and she used $150 worth of fake cash, court records state.

Investigators also received tips about the case through the Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers program.
