VAN HORNE | Iowa State Patrol officials have now identified two Iowa City residents killed in an accident with an agricultural sprayer west of here shortly before 7 p.m. Friday.

Killed were Paul Hofmeyer, 42, the driver of the car involved the crash, and a passenger in that vehicle, Stacy Thompson, 44.

The sprayer, driver, Jeffrey Selk, 42, of Keystone, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids by ground ambulance with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred on 70th Street east of 20th Avenue, west of Van Horne in southwest Benton County.

According to the State Patrol accident report, Hofmeyer's westbound car crossed the center line for some unknown reason and collided head-on with the eastbound spayer. The accident is still under investigation. Numerous public safety agencies assisted with the accident.

BENTON COUNTY | Two people are dead after their car collided with an agricultural boom sprayer, according to a Benton County Sheriff's news release. The male driving the sprayer was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It happened just before 7:00 p.m. Friday on 70th Street just west of Van Horne.

The sheriff's office said the two occupants of the car died at the scene. Both were from Iowa City.

The sheriff's office has not released the victims' names pending notifications to family.

The crash remains under investigation.
