MASON CITY, Iowa --- A member of the River City Dames of Anarchy roller derby team died after falling at the Roller City rink in Mason City Saturday night.

Toni Torres, 36, Mason City, was reportedly injured in a fall at the rink at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Sgt. Mike Thomas of the Mason City Police Department.

Susan Price Saylor of Ankeny saw Torres go down during an adult "speed skate" Saturday night.

"She was coming up beside me to my right side and she just kind of, she just went down. I don't know if she lost her balance or what," Saylor said. "We were going pretty fast. She went down and hit her head, just like the front of her head. She was down. I thought she going to get up and as I was coming around, I didn't even get around the rest of the rink and they said call an ambulance."

Thomas said Torres fell face-forward. He said she was breathing but unconscious when authorities arrived on the scene.

She was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, where she was pronounced dead.

Dames of Anarchy President Calley Welch said she wasn't up to talking about the accident when contacted by the Mason City Globe Gazette Sunday afternoon.
