FLOYD COUNTY -- A Charles City man was killed after troopers say he failed to stop his vehicle and was hit by a bus.
Harold Vermeer, 72, of Charles City was killed in the Thursday morning crash, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Troopers say Vermeer was southbound on Packard Avenue at the intersection of 270th Street in Floyd County just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday when he failed to stop at a stop sign.
His 2006 Buick Rendezvous went into the intersection and was struck by a westbound bus driven by Matthew Katcher, 32, of Greene.
Katcher was also injured in the crash and transported to Waverly Health Center by private vehicle. The extent of his injuries was unknown.
The bus was a former school bus that had been revamped to haul livestock, according to the patrol. It was empty at the time of the crash.
