POSTVILLE, Iowa --- Six students and a bus driver were treated for injuries following a Friday morning school bus crash.

All but one of the students — pupils with the Postville Community School District — were released from Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

The remaining student was transferred to a LaCross, Wis., hospital for further treatment, according to the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened at about 7:15 a.m. near the intersection of Hawkweed Drive and Ludlow Road.

The school bus was heading east on Hawkweed but was unable to stop at the intersection because of ice.

It went into a ditch and traveled down an embankment before coming to a rest in a yard, deputies said.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Postville Ambulance Service and Fire Department, and Allamakee County Emergency Management assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
