RICEVILLE — Dollar General’s new store in Riceville will host a grand opening later this week.
The event begins 8 a.m. Saturday, with free prizes and special deals at the store, 104 Oak St.
The first 50 adult shoppers will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card, and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag with complimentary samples, the company said in a news release.
Dollar General offers everyday essentials at low prices, including national name brands and private brands of food, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies, basic apparel and health/beauty products.
ACKLEY — Rep. Pat Grassley, R-New Hartford, will hold listening posts in Ackley, Steamboat Rock, Iowa Falls and Alden on Friday.
He will be at the Ackley Public Library at 8 a.m., the Steamboat Public Library at 9:15 a.m., The ECC Agriculture and Renewable Energy Center in Iowa Falls at 10:30 a.m. and the library in Alden at 11:45 .m.

ARLINGTON — In the tradition of providing farmers the latest industry insights, the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board in conjunction with Viafield will host a crop fair in Arlington from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Arlington Community Event Center.
The free crop fair — with the theme of “Growing Success on Your Farming Operation” — is designed to give attendees direct access to timely information that can help make their operations more profitable.

CHARLES CITY — The Old Tymers’ Clock Club will host an open house for the public in March.
The event is 5 to 7 p.m. March 2 at the Charles City Art Center, 301 N. Jackson St.
People will be able to see members’ favorite clocks, as well as discuss the history and makers of the clocks, which include models from the early 1800s, wall, mantle, cuckoo and more.

DECORAH — Decorah Power, a group of local citizens exploring the opportunity to create a municipal electric utility, will host a fundraising auction from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Elks Lodge in Decorah.
Tickets are available at The Oneota Food Coop. Prices include a $15 suggested donation for advance purchase and $20 suggested donation at the door.
The event will include gourmet appetizers, live music and live and silent auctions.
Auction items include a three-night stay for eight on a cabin on Gull Lake near Brainerd, Minn., with breakfast and boating provided; a house concert by John Goodin and Erik Sessions; a small permaculture garden installation; pottery by Karen Misseldine; prints by local artist John Snyder; and a recumbent bicycle from Decorah Bicycles.
