WESTGATE Iowa --- On Tuesday at about 8:30 a.m., the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of V-62 and 78th Street for a car-semi accident.

An investigation determined that Eric A. Fink, 22, of Sumner, was operating a 2002 Mazda Protégé southbound on V-62 and failed to see a southbound 2013 Kenworth Tractor trailer operated by Jay M. Burgart, 49, of Charles City, making a left hand turn from V-62 onto 78th St.

Fink attempted to pass the turning truck and both vehicles collided in the intersection blocking the roadway. The Mazda was considered a total loss and the Kenworth sustained an estimated $15,000 damage.

Fink was issued a citation for unsafe passing in an intersection. He was transported by private vehicle to Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner to be evaluated for minor injuries.
