Shelter pets get

spring 'break'

WATERLOO -- Cedar Bend Humane Society wants all shelter pets to experience a “break” from the shelter in a home environment through a new program called Spring Break Getaway. Beginning today, individuals and families can pick up a shelter pet to care in their home during spring break and return them to the shelter March 17.

Foster parents must have an approved application and agree to supply food, treats and toys while the pet is in their home.

CEDAR FALLS -- The 11th annual Cedar Valley Taste of Achievement, presented by Community Bank & Trust, will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 23 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cedar Falls.

This event is a beer, wine and food tasting accompanied by dueling pianos and silent and live auctions. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. All proceeds go to Junior Achievement programs in the Cedar Valley. These programs educate kindergarten through 12th-grade students about work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.
