DECORAH -- Decorah firefighters extinguished a house fire on John Street Tuesday afternoon.

The call came in about 3:40 p.m. at 502 John St.

Firefighters said the fire started it the attic and that when they arrived, smoke was venting through the attic vents.

The upstairs of the two-story home sustained heavy fire damage before the flames were extinguished. The rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage. Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No one was injured. Assisting them were firefighters from Calmar, as well as WMC Ambulance, Decorah Police Department, Decorah Street Department, Winneshiek Emergency Management Agency, Black Hills Energy and Alliant Energy.
