WINTHROP — Winthrop was one seven Iowa cities to recently receive Community Development Block Grant funds to support community water and sewer infrastructure projects.

Winthrop’s $300,000 award will help fund expanding the pump station, lagoon improvements, installation of a UV treatment system and other improvements.

CDBG grants are awarded based upon the benefit to low- and moderate-income population financial need, project impact and readiness and commitment of local resources to the project.

Winthrop Mayor Gerald Dennie was pleased with the award.

“City staff and the City Council have been engaged in long-term planning to make these improvements. We are grateful that the state of Iowa provides support for costly infrastructure projects. I want to thank the City Council and INRCOG for working together to make this happen,” he said in a statement.
