DES MOINES — The Republican Party of Iowa Wednesday said Dennis Litterer was the winner of the special nominating convention for Iowa House District 52.

Litterer won on the first round of balloting.

He will face Democratic candidate Todd Prichard in a special election Jan 22.

The seat was left vacant after State Rep. Brian Quirk, D-New Hampton, announced his resignation earlier this month.

The House District encompasses eastern Cerro Gordo County, as well as all of Floyd and Chickasaw counties.

Litterer is a native of Nashua, growing up on the family farm. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Litterer farmed in the Nashua area for 16 years before establishing his insurance and investment company.
