CEDAR RAPIDS — Iowa 1st District Democratic hopeful Thomas Heckroth hit the airwaves Friday with three televisions ads — “Better,” “Defend” and “Fix.”
Heckroth, who lives in Cedar Falls, is the first of the four Democratic candidates to run television ads ahead of the June 5 primary. The winner will challenge U.S. Rep. Rod Blum, a Dubuque Republican.
Each of Heckroth’s ads focuses on his commitment to listening to Iowans and his experience working on their behalf to help pass progressive legislation.
They also highlight his willingness and ability to stand up to Republicans like Blum and President Donald Trump.
During the George W. Bush-era, Heckroth worked for former Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin, advising him on agriculture, education and labor policies. He then went to the Obama Administration’s Department of Labor, where, he said, he worked to hold trading partners accountable and level the playing field for American workers.
Also seeking the 1st District Democratic nomination are George Ramsey III of Marion, Courtney Rowe of Cedar Rapids and state Rep. Abby Finkenauer of Dubuque.
The 20-county 1st District includes Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and Waterloo.
