DIKE — Voters in Dike Tuesday approved a $1.5 million bond for a new fire station.

With more than 250 total votes cast, 74.8 percent of voters said yes to the measure, while 25.1 percent voted no.

The fire station will be constructed in the northeast side of town. Dike Fire Chief Marv Geiken told the Grundy Register he was pleased with the results.

“We’re excited about the outcome,” Geiken said. “We appreciate the town and all the voters who came out to show their support.”

Officials said they needed the new station to meet the needs of a growing community, citing the growth of the Fox Ridge Housing Development, among other things. They said the current fire station did not have room for expansion, a training area and was aging.
