WEST UNION, Iowa --- A Frederika man has been arrested on forgery and drug charges.

On Monday, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office arrested Joshua Wayne Gitch, 26, for one count of forgery and one count of possession of a schedule III controlled substance.

Gitch was stopped outside a pharmacy when deputies were investigating a prescription pad that had been reported stolen from a doctor's office in Sumner. It was discovered that Gitch had stolen the prescription pad in May and had been forging prescriptions in Northeast Iowa.

Gitch was found in possession of hydrocodone and admitted to forging the doctor's signature to obtain the prescription drug. It was also learned that Gitch had done the same in two other pharmacies in Bremer and Black Hawk counties.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Fayette Police Department.
