WATERLOO — The Waterloo Board of Education this week expelled an unnamed student and noted that student will need to complete evaluations before returning to school.
The Waterloo Community School District Board of Education voted 5-0 on Monday in closed session to expel the student, who was identified as attending Waterloo West High School.
The reason given was the student was in violation of the student conduct code and the presence of the student was detrimental to the best interests of the school.
The student is expelled for the remainder of the semester and must complete a medical evaluation “to determine any learning challenges” as well as a substance abuse evaluation before being allowed to return.
Waterloo Community Schools does not release the names, ages, grades or gender of students in expulsion hearings or the nature or dates of the offenses.
