WATERLOO — Kingsley Elementary School’s lead teacher will step into the principal position next fall.
Waterloo Community Schools announced Jana Qualls has been chosen as principal for the 2018-19 school year pending Board of Education approval.
She will replace Amber Dietz, who is leaving the district at the end of the school year to be a consultant with Central Rivers Area Education Agency in Cedar Falls. Dietz has been Kingsley’s principal since 2013 and led Lowell Elementary School for four years prior to that.
“Kingsley Elementary is implementing their strategic plan in very strong ways,” said Superintendent Jane Lindaman. “I am happy that Ms. Qualls has agreed to continue that work with students, staff and families.”
“She knows Kingsley Elementary and will do a great job of furthering the mission. She is highly talented and brings vision and excellent leadership skills to the position.”
Qualls started working for the district as a teacher in 2009 and has been in her current position for the past five years. She takes over as Kingsley principal effective July 1.
