WATERLOO — On April 30, Waterloo Community Schools’ middle school students will attend a daylong teen summit, “Spotlighting Your Future.”
The annual summit focuses on community collaboration, leadership and advocacy.
It is planned, organized and executed by the Educational Talent Search Student Ambassadors and sponsored by UNI-CUE’s Educational Talent Search Program and the Waterloo Center for the Arts.
The ambassador program consists of 15 to 20 students every year, working in a leadership and advocacy role for their school, community and the ETS program. They are mentors to the youths in middle school.
Presenters will include Cedar Valley professionals in the areas of photography, architectural design, art education, theater and fashion marketing and design.
Students will participate in a fashion show with clothing inspired and designed by a UNI graduate who now owns his own clothing line.
Students also will participate in an art-focused community service project for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, where they make grocery bags out of T-shirts.
