DECORAH --- A former Kansas sheriff’s deputy has been arrested in Winneshiek County on a Kansas warrant for sex crimes.

Winneshiek deputies detained David Allen Huggins, 45, of LaCygne, Kan., on Thursday on the warrant for aggravated indecent liberties with a minor and sexual exploitation of a child. He remained in jail awaiting extradition to Kansas as of Monday afternoon.

Huggins was staying with friends in Winneshiek County at the time of the arrest, according to authorities. He was arrested without incident.

He had been a deputy with the Linn County (Kan.) Sheriff’s Office and had been assigned as a school resource officer there. He was placed on leave in November, according to media accounts. The incident allegedly happened in Kansas.
