WATERLOO – A Waterloo man who accidentally shot himself in the leg in February has been sentenced to prison on firearms charges.
Judge Linda Reade sentenced Chadreon Torele Gilley, 22, of two years and six months in prison during a hearing Friday in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids. He will serve three years of supervised release following the prison time, and he was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
He pleaded to a charge of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Gilley obtained a permit to carry weapons in January, and on Feb. 12 he was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg at UnityPoint-Allen Hospital.
Officers investigating the shooting searched his Dawson Street home in March and found marijuana and a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, according to court records. A urine test also was positive for marijuana, records state.
