WATERLOO – A federal grand jury has indicted a Waterloo man on weapons charges in connection with an argument outside a nightclub in June.

According to court records, Waterloo police saw Dazarris Shemeek Wilkerson holding this waistband while he argued with another man outside the Old Skool nightclub on Sumner Street on June 4, and he then handed something to a third man as police approached. The third man, Sunni Newell, was found to be carrying a .380-caliber Hi-Point pistol.

Wilkerson and Newell were arrested on state weapons charges in June in connection with the incident, and Newell has since pleaded guilty.

On Tuesday, a grand jury in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids handed up an indictment charging Wilkerson with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Court records allege Wilkerson is barred from possessing firearms because of a conviction for a 2010 incident where was possessed a shotgun while being a marijuana user.
