WATERLOO – A Waterloo teen has been arrested for allegedly stealing a handgun from a downtown pawn shop Monday afternoon.

According to police, two or three people walked into Levi Brothers Jewelry and Loan, 306 E. Fourth St., around 2 p.m. and one of them fled with a semi-automatic pistol.

Waterloo police officers and troopers with the Iowa State Patrol detained two people a short time later within blocks of the store. Police also recovered a gun from a home on Mulberry Street.

Sahjit Phillips, 18, was arrested for fourth-degree theft and carrying weapons, both misdemeanors. A 17 year old was taken into custody for interference, police said.
