WATERLOO – Four people have been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery at a Waterloo store over the weekend.

Waterloo police received a tip on Saturday about a holdup that was planned for Check Into Cash, 2144 University Ave., said Capt. David Mohlis with the Waterloo Police Department.

Officers set up surveillance in the area and pulled over a silver Chevrolet truck in the 1800 block of Falls Avenue around 10:20 a.m. Police noticed a BB gun designed to look like a high-caliber revolver in the vehicle, and two of the occupants were carrying black masks, police said. Further investigation led to the discovery of a semi-automatic pistol in the truck, rope and duct tape, according to court records.

Arrested for conspiracy, carrying weapons and going armed were Brian John Bennett, 20, of 153 Madison St.; Preston Floyd Brown, 20, of 153 Madison St.; Cody Leigh Carson, 19, of 664 Jones Road, Evansdale; and Patrick Earl Sumerall Jr., 21, of 250 Park View Blvd.

All four have since been released from the Black Hawk County Jail.
