WATERLOO – A father and son have been arrested after they allegedly assaulted a man at a Waterloo apartment while armed with a gun and a metal baseball bat on Monday night.

John Joseph Sanford Jr., 41, of 623 W. Ninth St., was arrested for intimidation with a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, going armed and first-degree harassment. His son, 25-year-old Jayvon Roosevelt Sanford, of 221 Miriam Drive, was arrested for assault while displaying a weapon and going armed.

Police also arrested the woman who drove the Sanford’s to the apartment, 41-year-old Laika Latrece Burt, for felon in possession of a firearm, carrying weapons and going armed. She was also arrested for possession of marijuana after police allegedly found a large bag of marijuana in a cookie jar at her home at 218 Irving Street.

According to police reports, Burt drove the two to an apartment at 118 Harrison St. around 9:20 p.m. Monday, and Jayvon Sanford hit Lashun Gray, 44, with a baseball bat several times while John Sanford pointed a pistol at him and threatened to shoot him. Gray suffered an injury to his elbow.

Witnesses called police, and officers arrived to find the Sanfords outside the building. Police discovered a bat and a .25-caliber Phoenix Arms handgun in Burt’s vehicle. Authorities allege Burt had handled the gun before traveling to Harrison Street, and officers found 50 rounds of .25-caliber ammo in her bedroom.
